Wendy Alexander
Let me first introduce myself, name is Wendy Alexander. I have been dancing for over 40 years. I started dancing with Gary Carpenter at Carpenter & Co, Tuggerah when I was 10 years of age, along with my older brother, then my youngest brother. I moved away from the area around 1993 and came back in 2012, where I rejoined Carpenter & Co and it was fantastic to be with my dancing family once again.
In 2014 Gary approached me and asked if I was still interested in calling. Obviously, I said yes and that’s where my calling career started. Gary has had many long trips around the world and left me in charge of calling at Carpenter & Co. I want to thank him for giving me the opportunity and the dancers for being so supportive during my learning stage of calling. I have also had the pleasure of co-calling at Tartan Promenaders.
In 2024, with the support of my partner Don Nesbitt, I opened my first club, in the local area with mainly beginners. We are having so much fun learning with each other. I then opened a ‘Learn Plus’ club a couple of months later in Tuggerah. At the end of 2024 one of the Central Coast’s monthly club Tumbi Country run by Brian Hotchkies and then Les Heaton, closed down. After many conversations I decided to keep a monthly club going and opened Coastal Country. So, you could say I jumped into calling with both feet, hard. I am really enjoying calling and the friendships made with all clubs and callers.
I have attended many callers’ seminars over the years and made many new friendships, which I will treasure. I have Called at five NSW State Conventions and had my first call at a National Convention in Darwin, 2024. It was an amazing and scary experience to call for more than three squares, thank goodness for friends who danced in front of me to keep me calm.
I look forward to many more years of calling and also making new friendships and connections.
